Picked up Rima at the airport on Friday afternoon and we really haven't stopped running since then. We have spent the last few days wandering the wilds of Florida with trips to several state and national parks. Saturday was nearby Payne's Prairie where alligators are numerous, and large, and make a habit of sunning themselves right in the middle of the walking path you are on. Also seen that day were numerous types and sizes of birds, mostly wading or swimming birds, as well as wild Bison.
Today we were off to Wakulla Springs in the NE corner of the state, to find manatees. Since I thought it was doubtful we would find any in the spring run, because of the warmth of the day, we saw several right next to the boat, including a cow and her new born calf. From there we drove a few miles back east to the National Seashore area at St Marks Lighthouse. We spent an hour or so there taking pictures of the lighthouse and walking on the beach before spending the last 20 minutes of the day watching the sun go down in a spectacular sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.
There was also a wonderful play on Saturday night to go too, Vanya, Sonia, Moshe and Spike. A terrific little study of family dynamics in a family that went way beyond dysfunctional. Funny and poignant all at the same time. Along the way there has also been some great meals out as well as some picnic type stuff too. We found a super Indian restaurant for dinner on Saturday as well as going to our favorite Mexican place here in town twice. For lunch on Saturday I had one of my favorites, a pulled goat burrito while Rima tried out one I've had before, a beef cheek Burrito. Both were excellent of course.
I have taken close to 300 photo's so far, and at some point I actually expect to get some of them organized and posted. It is likely that it will be a week or more, at least, before anything happens however. Tomorrow we will finish up our packing and getting stuff ready for our week long trip over to St Croix in the Caribbean. We will be going there for a week of laying around on the beach and swimming in the ocean, and contra dancing in the evening too the tunes of Wild Asparagus and the calling of George Marshall and Lisa Greenleaf. I can hardly wait.
So this blog will be going on a short hiatus after tomorrow... if not before. But I should be back by the 12th or 13th with plenty to talk about and lots of new pictures of everything.
