Spring is popping up all over the place today. Woke up to the sound of a tom turkey somewhere out in the forest making it known that he was available and horny. I love that sound they make, even if it is right at dawn and wakes me up.

Drove over to a section of the James River this afternoon to visit the 2nd oldest European Town in the U.S. This one is known as Henricus, and is just up river from the 1st settlement, Jamestown. Unfortunately, the park isn't open on Mondays, something they neglected to put on their brochure before putting it out. But that is okay, they had some nice benches overlooking the backwaters of the river and there were tons of birds and other critters to watch. Was surprised that not only had the geese already paired off, but several were already sitting on nests, and I assume eggs. Out where the sun was brightest the turtles had hauled out on every exposed log, rock or piece of weed big enough to hold them. Hundreds of them everywhere.

All over the place the red bud, crab apple and cherry trees are in full bloom. Even saw one small magnolia all blossomed out as well as several rhododendrons. It was so nice to be out and about again in the warmth. A bit more than 70 today and due to go higher tomorrow. It was also nice to get back into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and my sandals. I am hoping that this last week is the last time I need to put a pair of long pants on for a good long time.

Took a nice walk over to the lake this evening and listened to the spring peepers calling out from every little marshy area around the edge. I love that sound in the spring. On the way back to the trailer the bats were out, a sure sign that spring has finally come to the area once again.

Tomorrow I'll try to get back over to Henricus Park again and take a tour of that, maybe get some laundry done if there is time. Otherwise life is once again pretty good.
