Hot.... hot, hot, hot.... and dry.... really, really dry today also. Seems to be the norm for this area, and many others, this summer. Would like to see and feel a nice rain again... even one with thunder and lightning would be better than none.
Since my schedule is all out of wack at the moment because of the lack of a signal, at least a decent one anyway, out at the campground, I need to go back to yesterday afternoon and pick up where the last post left off..... Met up with my nephew Brian at his house around 4:00, he wanted to show me the "Man Cave" he as been working on, with at least token support of his girl friend Liz, it was once a small wooden shed out in the back yard, and still is, but he has used a few left overs from his job to insulate it, sheath the interior walls and install a new(er) door and window. It's actually kind of cute and gives him a place to put some of his leftover 'dead animal' mounts. A small portable TV and my old Reel-to-Reel tape deck from the 70's, and some of my tapes, supply some tunes to go with the cold beer out of the dorm room fridge.
He and I went over to a local bar for dinner after listening to some old music for a while, and had a burger and a beer for dinner. It's been a long time since I've had a real hamburger and french fries. Tasted pretty good!
Brian had other things to do afterwards, so I took off for the drive back to the trailer, but in this case I decided to take the long way home. Went east for a couple of miles and then cut due south on a dirt road I knew of. Started spotting wild turkeys out in the fields and along the stream beds right away. By the time the drive was done I had probably seen several hundred of them.... they are just everywhere this year.
Spotted a bunch of elk further on and watched them for quite a while. All cows and calf's as far as I could tell. Also saw ton's of deer along the way, several small bucks, but mostly doe's and their fawns. They are sure cute with their little white spots all over them still. Had a little bit of sun light left when I got back to the campground, so I drove out a dirt road on the back side of it and saw a few more deer and a couple of big horn sheep. A couple of ewe's and a lamb. They were a ways off, but still showed up well in the last of the sunlight.
Not much going on at the trailer. It was hot there from being closed up all day. Opened it all up and then watched a movie, Robin Hood, since it was still to hot to sleep. Finally drifted off around 1:30 in the morning when it finally cooled down enough.
Up way to early this morning in order to make it over to my other nephew, Luke's place before 9:00. Turned out they weren't even up when I got there at a quarter till, but it was easy to sit on the porch swing and pet the cat for a few moments. We were all over there in order to watch the Fur Trader Day's parade down main street in front of their house. Lot's of people sitting along the parade route to watch lot's of vehicles decorated with bunting and flags drive down the street. Plenty of old cars and tractors, horse drawn wagons and marching veterans and old time mountain men. Of course the favorite is still the local 'Shriners' in their little putt-putt cars. All of the parader's throw candy and pass out goodies to all the kids, and a few adults, along the way. Aubree made out like a bandit, acquiring nearly a whole shopping bag of pure sugar. It was interesting to watch the dynamic between her, who is 6, and a neighbor friend about a year younger. Being older and stronger Aubree could of totally cleaned up every time candy was thrown, but she actually shared a good deal of it with her friend and helped her gather more of her own. She certainly didn't over do it, no child of 6 ever gives away more than they keep, unless made too anyway, but she did a very good job of sharing the wealth. If we adults could just learn something from that lesson.
My nephew Brian's band, 'The Bahr Flies' were playing at a local bar this afternoon so a bunch of us went down to drink beer and listen for a while. They are actually pretty good, being able to play everything from the Beach Boys to Johnny Cash to Lady Ga-Ga. But they do play rather loudly. I'm still having a hard time hearing everything going on around me, but it will pass at some point. In the meantime.... did I mention that they were "LOUD"!
Going to go out and look for more deer and elk this evening with my sister and her husband. Otherwise it has been a pretty good day overall. A couple friends come in tomorrow afternoon, so I'm not sure how many posts I'll get to over the next several days. may have to sneak in at some point and get something off, we'll see though.
