The last dance of the weekend was over just a few short hours ago and already I am a bit sad because it will be such a long time until the next one. But on a positive note.... it was a great dance this afternoon. The Latter Day Lizards were at the top of their form and Lisa Greenleaf called terrific dances to go with the mood of the group. Last day dances always seem to be some of the best ones of the whole weekend. Not sure why that is exactly. It may be because some of the crowd has already left for home or that the ones who are left are usually the most hard core dancers of the group. Or it may be because all of us are a bit tired from all the dancing on Friday and Saturday, so we are all a bit looser or maybe even a bit punch drunk. What ever it is, today was no exception in that the dancing was hot from the very first balance and swing.
The Lizards seemed to out do themselves today with some of the most creative dance tunes I've ever heard. Taking bits and pieces from traditional contra tunes as well as a little jazz, blues and even rock, they wove intricate melodies that had you dancing in a nearly trance like condition. Lisa is good enough to know that you don't need super challenging dances on the last day, most of us are shedding brain cells by the millions by then anyway, but smooth flowing dances are a good way to keep us all on track without to many busts in the line. I swear there were a couple of dances that ran about 15 mins long that probably had me semi running for more than a mile during that time. Tons of fun, lots of smiles and enough sweat to..... well, let's just say there was a lot of sweat and just leave it at that.
Unfortunatly my next good dance won't be until the 26th of December when I'll be back up in Morgantown, WV for Warren and Terry Doyles dance week. Really looking forward to that dance again. Really good bands and callers and lots of repeat dancers that I have come to know pretty well. Will need to find a regular weekly dance between now and then of course. There might be something in Tallahassee, Gainsville or Tampa between now and then, but dancing really slows down between now and Christmas for some reason.
Will be here in the Atlanta area for another couple of days before heading down to the Tallahassee Florida area. I have a week booked at a small county park down there that is a nice place to spend a few days. Had hoped to be there for a couple of weeks but it seems that the Thanksgiving holiday was all booked up. Seems like I always forget about that and end up scrambeling for a place to stay. Will try to find a place somewhere after I'm done with this.
In the meantime the rest of the evening is going to be pretty much spent relaxing. Looking forward to reading my book, drinking some hot tea and popping ibuprophen like candy corn. My feet are really tired right now.
